Florida Teaching Degrees

In addition to completing a teaching program that results in at least a bachelor's degree, Florida teachers must also complete all three parts of the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations.

Bachelor’s in Education Programs in FL

Students interested in earning a bachelor degree in an education can choose programs from a number of different schools in Florida. Some schools offer a 120-124-credit Bachelor of Art in Elementary Education (grades 1-6) program. Typical classes include subject courses, clinical education and internships. Bachelor degree programs with majors in art education (k-12), elementary education, secondary education (social science) and secondary education (English) are offered at Flagler College (FG).

Flagler offers a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with concentrations in education of the deaf and hard of hearing and in exceptional student education. Florida Atlantic University (FAU) offers a large variety of bachelor degree programs with majors in math, music, physical education, English, biology, chemistry and elementary education. Each of these programs also offer minors so students can obtain certification in specific subject areas.

FAU offers various other bachelor degree programs in the areas of counselor education; curriculum, culture and educational inquiry; exceptional student education; and exercise science and health promotion. Florida State University offers bachelor degree programs in early childhood education, English education, social science education, elementary education, exceptional student education and sports management.

Master’s in Education Programs in FL

AU offers a Master of Science in Exceptional Student Education, with its concentration in exceptionalities, is aimed at students pursuing teaching certification in Florida. Florida Atlantic University offers Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with certification in various subjects such as science, biology, chemistry, Spanish, physics and art, among others.

FAU also offers Master of Education programs in reading education, environmental education and elementary education. Master degree programs in the areas of exercise science and health promotion; educational leadership and research methodology; curriculum, culture and educational inquiry; counselor education; and communication sciences and disorders.

Master degree programs at Florida State University include master’s in higher education; career counseling; learning and cognition; curriculum and instruction; educational leadership; sports psychology; and instructional systems and learning technologies, among others

Online Teaching Degrees in FL

Albizu University offers an online Master of Science in TESOL with a concentration in exceptional student behavior. AU also offers individual online courses. Although FAU offers online education, they currently do not offer education programs through distance learning. Florida State University offers several online degree programs including Master of Science in Educational Leadership/Administration; Special Education; and Learning and Cognition. FSU also has some online certificate programs.

Florida Teaching Certification & Specializations

College certificate programs in both mathematics education and science education (grades 5-9) are offered through Albizu University at the Miami campus. An associate degree in general education, also offered at AU, can help students get the jump on their bachelor degree. FAU offers educational specialists degrees with focuses on counselor education/mental health; school counseling (k-12); adult and community leadership; and educational leadership (k-12).

FAU’s College of Education awards scholarships to many students that are enrolled in their education programs. In addition to the bachelor and master degree programs, FSU also offers certificate programs in coaching, measurement and statistics, educational leadership and program evaluation. Certificate programs can boost an academic degree and advance a teacher’s education.
