Wisconsin teachers must have a bachelor’s degree. If it’s a teacher-based bachelor degree, the individual can obtain certification and licensure.

For non-teaching bachelor's degrees, the individual must complete a complete an education preparation program so that he or she may obtain a teaching license. Wisconsin has several colleges and universities that offer teaching programs and alternative teacher education degrees.

Bachelor’s in Education Degrees in Wisconsin

Alverno College offers undergraduate programs in elementary, middle school and secondary education for students who want initial licensure as teachers. They also offer several major and minor areas so that students can earn certifications in specific subjects and grade levels. For instance, a student can enroll in an elementary school program and take a concentration in mathematics, which will enable this teacher to teach all elementary age children and specialize as a mathematics teacher.

Cardinal Stritch University offers various options for aspiring or already licensed teachers. Students seeking initial licensure can choose from SCU’s elementary education or secondary education bachelor degree programs. Students in the elementary education program can choose certification/licensure in the following areas: early childhood to middle childhood; middle childhood to early adolescence; early adolescence to adolescence; early childhood to adolescence; and dual certification in several of these areas.

Students can also choose from several minors like reading, science, mathematics, social studies and English to name just a few. Teaching students will also receive assistance in finding field experiences and clinical placements to obtain the required hands-on training and internships. University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee offers a wide array of undergraduate programs with majors in educational studies; early childhood education; social studies education; special education and mathematics education, among others.

Master’s in Education Degrees in Wisconsin

Alverno College teaching students who already have a bachelor degree can choose programs in early adolescence, early childhood or middle childhood program and enroll in a license to master program, which advanced the bachelor degree to a master degree with certification. AC offers a Master of Arts in Teaching program that can be completed in 2-3 years. Students in this program can pursue additional licenses in areas like alternative education, reading teacher, early childhood, middle childhood, special education or early adolescence, among others.

Cardinal Stritch University offers a Master of Science in educational leadership and Master of Arts degrees in inclusive education; language and literacy; teaching; urban education; and urban special education. The Master of Arts in Teaching program is an accelerated program that gives students the option of licensure only or licensure with degree.

The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee offers master degree programs with majors in early childhood education; curriculum & instruction; English education; adult and continuing education leadership; learning and development; reading education; science education and many more. The master degree programs also offer students several concentrations so they may earn certifications in more than one area.

Online Teaching Degrees in WI

Cardinal Stritch University offers an online master’s degree in educational leadership. This 31-credit program is also offered on campus. University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee offers various online academic options depending on what the student has in career goals. They offer online master degrees in educational administration and supervision; cultural foundations of education; and adult and continuing education leadership.

UW-Milwaukee also offers an online reading certification program; a teaching and learning in education program; and an online deaf and hard of hearing masters and teacher certification program. There are several more online options at UW-Milwaukee.

Alverno College offers licensure and certification programs in the areas of licensure to master’s program, post-baccalaureate teacher education program and urban education fellows program. AC also offers advanced licensure programs in alternative education, administrative leadership, instructional leadership, reading teacher or reading specialist.

Cardinal Stritch offers licensure and certification programs in special education and pupil services, district administrator, undergraduate integrated leadership and bilingual education.
